Sleep in Silicon Valley

November 17, 2016 @ 7:30 am - 9:00 am PST

Free

Along with nutrition and exercise, sleep is a pillar of health, but all too often healthy sleep is whittled away by the competing demands of work, school, and family, and fragmented by stress, the immediacy of electronics, and coexisting health problems. Dr. Shannon S. Sullivan will help us learn more about the bidirectional relationship between sleep and health, insights into modern challenges to achieving healthy sleep, and tools to promote better sleep at all ages.
Dr. Shannon S. Sullivan is a Board Certified pediatrician, pediatric pulmonologist, and sleep medicine specialist. She is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Stanford University Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, where she teaches and sees patients of all ages in the Stanford Sleep Medicine Clinic.

She is actively involved in Center’s ACGME Sleep Medicine fellowship program, and teaches medical trainees at all levels as well as high school students about the importance of sleep health. Dr. Sullivan is the author of more than 30 book chapters, peer-reviewed articles and original research in areas of sleep medicine and lung health. She was director of the Managing Sleep Health in the Primary Care Setting, sponsored by National Sleep Foundation, and is an appointed member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine Transportation and Safety Task Force. She has served as a mentor in the Stanford University Program in BioDesign 2014, for which she received a Mentor Award in 2014, and is currently co-Principal Investigator on two studies evaluating sleep medicine education in residency and fellowship programs across the United States.
